Fired Up Book One in the Dreamlight Trilogy An Arcane Society Novel Jayne Ann Krentz Books

FIRED UP Is the first book in the Dreamlight Trilogy and also the seventh book in the Arcane Society series. The Arcane series is about those with paranormal talents who have secret society. That society is in danger for an internal foe who are using a formula to enhance talents for criminal purposes. The series spans three time periods: historicals (Amanda Quick), contemporaries (Jayne Ann Krentz) and futuristics (Jayne Castle). The Dreamlight Trilogy is part of the series and can be read independent of the other books (although the books are better in context of the entire series). The Dreamlight Trilogy focuses on the descendants of Nicholas Winters who altered his DNA in pursuit of enhanced paranormal abilities. Some of his male descendants are in danger of insanity if they don't find the Burning Lamp and the woman who can help work the lamp in order to control the Winter talent.

FIRED UP is a contemporary story about Jack Winters, who has begun to have nightmares and blackouts. He hires Chloe Harper, a private detective, to find the Burning Lamp. Jack also knows that Chloe has the power to work the lamp. Chloe's talent has left her alone because she cannot bear to sleep in the same room with anyone. That has made her romantic relationships difficult. She knows that something is different about Jack and the two find themselves in danger from those who want to kill Jack and take the Burning Lamp.

This is a great romantic suspense book. The story is exciting and moves very quickly. The romance is satisfying and emotional. Jack and Chloe are clearly meant for one another.

For readers of the Arcane series, this book adds a new layer of story. Most of the books have focused on the Jones family and the society. This book is about those on the outside and yet have a connection with society.

One of my favorite parts of this book is getting to see Fallon Jones. He has a great book which is the next contemporary book in the Arcane series. This book introduces his romance story.

Fired Up Book One in the Dreamlight Trilogy An Arcane Society Novel Jayne Ann Krentz Books Reviews

I so enjoy the Arcane Society series. I have read almost all of the books, although I prefer the contemporary novels to the future ones. I haven't read the past ones yet but I have them a and will read them. The best thing about them is that you don't really have to read them in order, it just makes it easier to keep the story lines easier to see.
Main character is annoying and unrealistic.
Writing is okay with decent dialogue.
It boils down to the fact that this is a formulaic churned out for a contract to sell to a demographic. Which means bland and stereotyped. In sert touches of soft-core porn and there you go.
I am also a self confessed JAK fan in all her different personas. Usually I prefer the historical Amanda Quick and futuristic Jayne Castle books because it is easier for me to suspend disbelief in those settings. With that said, this was one of her better contemporary stories. The psychic powers continue to evolve and are becoming even more impressive. The psychic connection also adds another layer to the main characters' bond.

I liked both main characters, Chloe and Jack, and they had good chemistry. The story line moves along well and wraps up nicely but has enough loose ends to make me look forward to the next story. The plot is summarized well by the other reviewers.

JAK has a terrific imagination as she continues to add more layers to her storyline. I keep thinking that she has come to the end of the psychic Jones and Jones story but she continues. Fallon who has been in several other books should hopefully have his story completed in the next JAK book. I continue to enjoy all of her books and will continue to buy them
There's so much psy energy and psy theory running around the page, that I find myself half heartedly reading over the explanations of their powers. And maybe it's that this is the first book I've read in the Arcane Society and skipped the rest. But I don't think so. I thoroughly enjoyed her St Helen's series and followed the paranormal aspect really well. Fired Up was just dodgy.
Also, main couple intimacy level tepid.
This series never fails to fascinate me. Though I have most of the arcane books on my bookshelf I have started adding them to my kindle collection for rereading. Tracking the paranormal activity of the Arcane society from Amanda Quick's regency England to the current era of Jayne Krentz then on to Jane Castle in the futuristic Harmony is so completely unique. This time I'm reading them out of order but similar time frames. They are so beautifully woven together that they flow perfectly in any order. Grab one and try it. Highly recommended
This book was ok. I had a little trouble with it because I haven't read the other Arcane Society books, but it is mostly a stand alone book.

The heroine was very good. She is smart, a good businesswoman, articulate, and stands up for herself without being TSTL. The hero is fine too. He's not one of Ms. Krentz's obnoxious ones that treat the heroine very badly and never apologize.

The plot was fine, but I had a hard time staying interested. We don't really get in the characters' heads to have any buildup in the romance. They declare their love out of nowhere.
