Aloren The Estralony Cycle Young Adult Fantasy Romance Fairy Tale Retelling eBook E D Ebeling

This is the first fantasy book based on a traditional fairy tale that I have ever read, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Well, I loved it! There’s actually very little of the fairly tale left in this retelling, except maybe the general sense of timelessness.

The main thing that I loved in this book is the world it’s set in. It is magical and terrible at the same time, and impeccably described, rich and vivid. The characters, especially Reyna are fully realized, and I actually loved the modernity of this book, which is especially evident in the characters sometimes using quite foul language, as normal people would. It’s a tough thing Reyna has to do to save her brothers, and the author did a great job getting into her mind and making us feel like we are right there with her as she makes her difficult decision, which could lead to madness or terrible disease.

I’ve already bought the second book in the series, Wind Over Bone (love that title, by the way!) and can’t wait to start reading. If you love magical fantasy you will love this book, guaranteed!

Aloren The Estralony Cycle Young Adult Fantasy Romance Fairy Tale Retelling eBook E D Ebeling Reviews

Compelling, fun story! A good read.
This story was hard to follow in the first half of the book. There are so many names to remember and some characters are called by more than one name. It was a struggle to get through the first half. I normally devour a book in one to two days but I had to force myself to read this. When I did read it was only a few pages at a time. Once the story picked up and I had a good handle on who was who I was able to finish the second half in just a couple hours. I just wish the first half of the book had flowed as well as the second.

I see that the second book is a prequel and is about all new people. I won't be continuing on in the series. Had it continued following the same characters I might have been curious enough to see where it was going. I just don't have a desire to wade through a bunch of confusing characters again.
I was a bit surprised when I started to read this because it was quite different from what I have read before. The story immediately grabbed my attention and I could not put it down. It is full of action, romance, suspense, fantasy, hardships, and magic. If you are a fan of fairy tales you will love this story. It also have a Les Miserables feel to it! Alll in all it is a book worth reading! )
I loved that nothing was explained and it was assumed that you would make each connection. Rough and sad as it was there was a realness that made it easy to slip into the written world.
Absolutely adored this whimsical re-imagining of the classic "The Wild Swans". Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down for even a moment. The author kept me fully engrossed, and at times on my toes, the whole way through. Complete with a well created fantasy world to realistic and engaging characters, I can promise you won't be disappointed with this book. For all the fantasy/fairy-tale lovers out there looking for something new and refreshing to read, look no further! Highly Recommended!
This turned out to be one of my favorite books, and Aloren is, hands down, my favorite heroine ever. She never gives up and does what needs to be done. I also loved Andrei (after a while). There is a whole cast of interesting characters and the story is full of adventure. I wouldn't suggest this for young kids, but I wouldn't have a problem with my teenager reading it. (There is language and violence, but you get those if you watch the news and go to high school.) I really hope this story continues, because it was amazing.
I'd never heard of E.D. Ebling and I was in the market for something new and unusual to read. I was pleasantly surprised when this book caught my attention.

Not all fairy tales are necessarily written to be children's books. I appreciate the more adult spin on an old classic. It isn't necessarily "adult", but I do believe parents should be forewarned about the language. It's nothing worse than your teen hears at school or at the cinema, so keep that in mind if you're looking for something for your teenager.

I would honestly be hard-pressed to choose my favorite character in this book because there are so many to choose from. The relationship between the siblings is very well designed and well written. All of the friends seem to come together like children on a playground normally do. Some prefer to stick together for one activity while others prefer another activity, and so on.

I almost felt lost about half way through the book because there were so many things going on, but it quickly came back together.

All in all, I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone age 14+ who enjoys a good "fairy tale" that isn't quite the normal fairy tale.
