Its purpose is to watch for the coming of The Desired One, or what Christians would call the second coming of Christ. Needless to say, the project has its ups and downs and dissenters, but gradually it evolves into something quite special.

Gatekeepers: The Quest for Clues to an Age-Old Riddle is a unique work of fiction that takes a philosophical, nonjudgmental look at spiritual beliefs united for a common purpose. The story is told from an omniscient POV, producing a gentle, almost fable-like quality to the story. The book clearly makes one think about faith and the possibilities if the world's religious leaders decided to work together toward the same goals.

The story's strong premise doesn't leave a lot of room for character development and while readers are allowed inside Kojo's head, it is much less so for Sue and others except through dialogue. There are many Biblical quotations throughout the book, yet they do address key issues. Anyone seeking a thoughtful story about spirituality and possibilities, would enjoy Kobina Amissah Fynn's novel.
